An independent OEM manufacturer ran a field evaluation of ElFys' 4-quadrant photodetector for semi-active laser seeker applications.
· Distance acquisition successfully reached 5 kilometres, which is 1.5x comparing to other quadrant detectors under the same conditions.
· Signal acquisition maintained through obscurants including smoke, dust, and haze.
ElFys black silicon 4-quadrant photodetector is an enabler of:
· Smaller control surfaces: longer acquisition range reduces angular correction demands, enabling lighter airframe designs.
· Lower-cost IMU: cleaner signal at greater range relaxes inertial unit requirements, reducing cost at scale.
· Smaller optical aperture: 50+% higher sensitivity at 1064 nm makes a 25 mm seeker viable where a larger optic was previously required.
Field data, not laboratory figures.

The result changes the design trade-off for electro-optic seeker heads. Longer SAL acquisition range directly enables smaller munition control surface area, lower-cost IMUs, and compatibility with 25mm optical aperture seekers. The OEM evaluation team confirmed it as both a technical enabler and a cost-saving driver for precision guided munitions system designers.
The precision guided munitions market is transitioning from saturation fire toward long-range precision strike, driven by systems. Terminal accuracy and supply at scale, in tens of thousands of units, are the requirements. The ElFys QPD is designed to enable both.
